About Me

The hardest part of making this website for me was writing about myself.
I want to tell other people’s stories.
I first became interested in photography in high school, which lead to being yearbook editor and photo editor for the school newspaper. What was an interest, became a passion and a way to connect with people. The art of it intrigued me of course, but much later in life I learned it was the connection I valued more. Ironically, I got a 4-year scholarship to NAU for journalism, so I was supposed to be a writer. However, I turned in another direction and I’m so glad I did.
When I started my business in 1986, there were many more male photographers than female, and we were using film. I made the transition to digital and now more changes in store with AI and mirrorless cameras. Fortunately, I don’t believe it’s the equipment that’s important in the photography of people I think it’s the ability to help people feel comfortable enough to show their real selves, and the skill and imagination of the photographer. Of course, having a reliable camera doesn’t hurt.
I have photographed celebrities, still born babies, burn victims, billionaires, people living in their cars, folks with mental and physical disabilities, and people of every religion and lifestyle you can think of. I did boudoir when it was considered ‘porn’ by many of my colleagues. I photographed gay weddings before it was legal. I opened my studio in downtown Phoenix, when it was kind of sketchy and other photographers wanted the more affluent areas. I felt it was better to be centrally located.
Now, moving forward, the most rewarding photography for me is still preserving my client’s important milestones, their family history, and with the skills I have learned, make them happy by revealing their best authentic selves in their photographs. Thank you for stopping by and taking the time to read ‘about me’.
My Approach to Photography
At the core of my work is the ability to help people feel comfortable in front of the camera so they can be their genuine selves. I listen to my clients to get their input and use my imagination, creative posing, expert lighting, and maybe some photoshop magic, to create images that resonate and retain their value for lifetimes. Whether it’s someone nervous stepping into a boudoir session, an energetic toddler, or a high-powered executive, I have the patience and expertise to make the experience comfortable and fun.
I believe in honesty and directness. If your outfit isn’t working, I’ll tell you. If your pose needs adjustment, I’ll make sure we get it right. I often hear from clients that their previous photographer gave them little to no direction—that wouldn’t happen with me. I photograph everyday people, not professional models, so providing guidance is a crucial part of my job. You’re paying for my expertise, and I’ll make sure you walk away with images you’ll love.

I must thank some awesome people who have helped hold me up in hard times and supported me in my life and career. There are more than are listed here, as I’m sure I missed more than a few, for that, I apologize in advance.
First, my Ride or Die, Alice O’Neil, no other words are needed for her, she knows. My fellow photographer Scott Hays, who is now gone from this world. He could always make me laugh and helped me through some tough times. David Hunsaker, of Tempe Camera Repair, who has always been there to advise me when considering equipment purchases and great conversation. Phil Waring, ordained minister, ‘my Jesus connection’, and best wedding minister EVER. We worked on so many weddings together and he has been there for me in some of my darkest times and the happiest as well. Lorri Gregory, highly talented hair and makeup artist, of Two by Two Hair and Makeup Artistry, our adventures with clients and otherwise are legendary. Finally, my daughter Paige, who I love more than my life and I am so proud of her kindness and accomplishments. Rock on and remember to never give up on something you really want. Love you all.
